These sheets have almost no constants. Every number is worked from the figures you enter: the pages, the templates, the images without alt text, the forms, the videos, the PDFs, the criteria failing, the minutes a fix takes, your developer's and the auditor's hourly rates, the sample share, the retest rate, the open issues and the rate you close them. The one figure that is not yours is the count of WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria the checklist scores against, which is the standard's own and is cited where it is used. The defaults are one 240-page site's worked example, not a benchmark this site publishes.

Remediation is the expensive half, and the order it is done in changes the bill. Fixing page by page, which is what a raw audit export invites, is the most expensive possible order; fixing template first, then the customer paths, then the content long tail, is the cheapest. On the worked example the whole programme is 401 issues, 167 hours and $15,872, of which 126 issues sit in nine templates that between them reach every page on the site.

Templates first

Nine templates carrying fourteen failing criteria is 126 issues, and each fix reaches 26 pages. Nothing else in the programme has that leverage, and re-scanning afterwards shrinks the page-level list before anybody opens it.

Then the customer paths

Search, the main service page, the form or checkout, contact. Six forms at two issues each is a small count with the largest consequence: these are what a complaint names and what a customer abandons.

Then the content, at a rate you can keep

180 missing alt attributes is the biggest line and the cheapest per fix. Four issues a month against 34 open leaves ten at a six-month review, which is a publishable position rather than a stalled one.

Questions people ask about the Website accessibility remediation

In-house or a service?

In-house for your own codebase; a service for documents, captioning and legacy systems nobody can change.

How long does it take?

On the worked example 167 hours, about a month of one developer spread across a quarter.

Will fixes break the design?

Almost none do. Contrast and focus indicators are the two that touch visual design and both have solutions that keep the brand.
